Jungheinrich Operator Assist: Smarter Technology. Safer Operations

A busy warehouse gives forklift operators a lot to watch: people crossing an aisle, pallets in the travel path and traffic near dock doors. Even an experienced operator can benefit from extra warnings and safety precautions when conditions change.

Jungheinrich Operator Assist Intelligent technologies help forklift operators recognize potential hazards and respond. Two operational systems, Zone Assist and Object Assist, can alert operators and automatically reduce truck speed in specific situations. They can be added when purchasing an eligible new Jungheinrich forklift, and current generation trucks may qualify for an upgrade.

Operator Assist supplements established safety practices. Operators still need to follow site rules and safety procedures, watch their surroundings and maintain control of the truck.

Zone Assist: Forklift Speed Control for Defined Access

Some parts of a facility call for extra caution. A forklift approaching a busy intersection, loading dock or staging area may need to travel more slowly than it would elsewhere.

Zone Assist lets you establish zones based on your facility’s layout and traffic patterns. When a truck enters a defined zone, Zone Assist can provide alerts or adjust its behavior. That may include automatic forklift speed control when the zone and truck configuration call for it. Zone Assist can also be configured to interact with connected facility devices, such as gates, lights or alarms.

This targeted approach helps reinforce and ensure safe operation in areas you identify as higher risk while allowing normal travel through the rest of the facility.

Object Assist: Obstacle Detection in the Truck’s Travel Path

Unlike Zone Assist, which responds to a truck’s location, Object Assist responds to what lies ahead of it.

Object Assist uses LiDar technology to monitor the truck’s predicted travel path. If it detects an obstacle in that path, such as a person, another truck or a stationary object, it alerts the operator and automatically slows the truck to crawl speed. It does not bring the truck to a stop. The operator remains in control.

The system focuses on objects in the predicted path rather than everything nearby. That helps limit unnecessary slowdowns in active aisles and staging areas, supporting both awareness and a steady workflow.

AI Camera: Pedestrian Detection in the Truck’s Travel Path

The AI Camera uses artificial intelligence to recognize people in the lift truck’s travel path. When it detects a pedestrian, the system first alerts the operator, then automatically slows the truck to help reduce the risk of a collision.

While Object Assist detects a range of obstacles, including people, other trucks and stationary objects, the AI Camera focuses specifically on pedestrian detection. This added support can be especially useful in areas where forklifts and people regularly share space.

How Can Forklift Safety Systems Support Productivity?

The benefits of these systems extend beyond safety. Fewer unnecessary slowdowns and collisions can help keep work moving.

A collision can interrupt work well beyond the time it takes to stop a truck. It may damage a load, equipment or racking and take people away from their usual tasks.

Targeted slowdowns can help a facility maintain a steadier flow of work. Trucks can continue at their normal speed where conditions allow, while operators get added support in busy areas or when an obstacle enters their path. Over a shift, avoiding unnecessary interruptions can help keep loads moving on schedule.

How Can You Get Jungheinrich Operator Assist?

You can request Operator Assist when buying a new Jungheinrich truck or ask G&W whether a truck you already own qualifies for an upgrade. The options are available on most electric Jungheinrich forklift models, though retrofit eligibility depends on the truck’s generation and configuration.

Your G&W sales representative can review your equipment and facility to determine which technologies fit your operation. If you do not have a representative, contact G&W. G&W can perform eligible upgrades at its shop or at your location.
